I didn't get into tracking because I particularly enjoyed setting up tags.
I got into it because I kept wanting to answer simple questions.
Where did this lead come from?
Which campaign generated it?
Did the person actually submit the form?
Did they eventually become a customer?
The problem was that the answers were often spread across different places.
The ad platform had one number.
Analytics had another.
The CRM had something else.
And sometimes the information just wasn't there.
That's when tracking started becoming more interesting to me.
A form submission isn't particularly useful on its own.
It's more useful when I can connect it to where the person came from and what happened afterward.
That's where things like GTM, GA4, Meta Pixel, CAPI, CRM data, and APIs start fitting together.
I'm still figuring out the best way to build these systems, but I've started thinking about tracking less as "installing analytics" and more as building a reliable trail of what happened.
That distinction has changed how I approach it.
